I can’t really say because I haven’t really started my career yet, but in terms of my college career, I would say to be bold and don’t be afraid of failing because failing is ultimately a learning experience. The more you fail, the more you learn, experience and grow as a person.

Remain connected to your roots! It’s very easy to get lost in the shuffle of life, so try as much as possible to revisit aspects of your life that you are most comfortable with! (i.e. talking to family every now and then).
I always need an hour or two to myself everyday to recharge and realign with what needs to get done. This could be paired with either a can of RedBull or a carton of ice cream. I’m definitely in the beginning stages of my career, but so far I think its better to be open minded and take on any new experience that is offered. You never know what else can be fulfilling or valuable to you professionally/personally if you give it a try.
This is something I have not quite mastered yet. But I believe even if its 10 mins or 2 hours you should always have moments where you put your attention on something that you are passionate about whether it’s an activity, hobby, or a loved one.

Be accountable for the inevitable mistakes that you will make. It’s not the falling down that defines you, it’s how you pick yourself back up. Also, as important as this all seems (and sometimes is), it’s just media, at the end of the day, you are selling something you will only hear about if it goes exceptional well, or horribly wrong.
So, people balance this? Man – its an ebb and flow. Sometimes I feel balanced. During those times, I make sure I don’t respond to emails after 7 pm, I only book one evening client event during the week, and I block out 2 hours during the work day to actually work. Then the next week, I have 3 dinners, I am traveling, I am checking email at midnight and working during the weekend. Who has figured this out??? Please share your secrets!

Though I am just about to begin my career after college, I would certainly say that some helpful advice I ever received and passed forward to others would be to gain experience in anything you can. Knowledge is power, so the more you know and the greater experience you have, the better your chances in life will be (both personally and professionally).
I find myself always doing work during times that should be personal, whether it be ‘after-hours’ or on the weekends. The best way to balance this out is to remind myself that if I don’t put myself first sometimes, I won’t be able to perform my best when I need to. Overwhelming moments are the worst to have.

The Big Island of Hawaii. My family used to visit a lot, usually around Thanksgiving, and I have many incredible memories snorkeling around the beaches there.
I have an obsession with board games. It might not sound like a guilty pleasure, but there’s a shelf outside my home office with everything from Catan to Carcassone to Dominion and everything in between. Add on a never-ending supply of new board games coming to the market every year, and Amazon’s friendly reminders about daily board game deals, and suddenly a hobby can become an addiction quite quick. That said, if anyone’s looking for a game of Catan, let me know!
“Be the change you want to see in the world.” It’s wrongly attributed to Ghandi, but the message is still loud and clear. It’s about acting ‘as if,’ as if you lived in the world you wish the world really was, and acting the way you believe good citizens of that world should act.
We can’t all change the world, but can all make our corner of the world the incredible place we hope it will be, by starting with the right actions as we see them.
iPhone
Never stop learning. There’s many people who come out of college and into the working world ready to go with the skills they have. But the skills you have in the beginning of your career will only get you so far, whereas an innate sense of curiosity and a thirst to learn more will literally make your career limitless. Reach!
I have a beautiful wife and two amazing children, and thanks to Covid we’re all home together quite often. I also work from home. To balance everything, I try to set clear boundaries, stating which hours are for worktime and which are for family.
The kids respect that during the day, because they know I won’t answer emails at night (unless I absolutely have to) and will focus on whatever family board game we’re playing instead. It’s about making commitments, honoring them, and realistically looking at what you have to accomplish before you set that schedule.
Clever, curious, creative.
The community. I interact with a lot of marketers across the country, and there’s something inherently special about the Las Vegas marketing community compared to everywhere else. As we all grow in our careers, it’s important to have an amazing network of local likeminded individuals, so we can bounce ideas, share experiences and really remind ourselves that we’re in this together.
The ability to bring marketers here in Las Vegas together is what’s amazing about LVIMA!

Always keep an open mind and always remain courteous with a response, no matter how busy you are. If you’re not staying open to new technologies and capabilities that are out there, then you’ll just grow comfortable with what you’re doing day in and day out and won’t be able to push yourself and the boundaries for your client. When I was on the agency side working as a planner, I would respond to every single vendor who reached out, whether it was with a simple yes or a simple no. And if they didn’t make a plan after submitting their RFP, I’d always reach out and let them know why. I can’t count how many times I’d see vendors at events and they’d thank me that I got back to them at all, even if it was with bad news – they were extremely appreciative and always offered their help in the future if I needed it. It was one of those exact same vendors who helped me get my first gig on the sales side. I realize I say that now through the lense of a seller, but how I interacted with vendors on the agency side years ago, had a direct impact on where I ended up.
There’s a balance? Haha, jk. I’ve been fortunate to have worked from home for the last 3.5 years ever since I started here at Simpli.fi, and that inevitably forced me to find that discipline to know when to focus on your work even with all of the distractions around you at home, and when to remind yourself to shut it off and take time for yourself. As a seller, it can be especially tough because you receive requests throughout all times of the day working with clients who are in different time zones, so you learn to prioritize requests and you determine what you can get to later on, so it doesn’t disrupt from having that time to yourself to disconnect and relax. If you’re constantly going back to check your inbox, it’ll inevitably disrupt the, “flow” of your time spent to yourself and you’ll really never get to fully recharge.
Loyal, honest & sarcastic.
I love that now after having been involved for 2 years, I feel like I’m a part of the community and I actually know people who I’ve developed strong relationships and friendships with. And I enjoy equally knowing that there will always be someone knew to connect with as our community continues to grow and pushes the boundaries of what it is.

Be authentic – I’ve always believed it’s important to stay true to who you are and your values; whether you’re at the begging stages of your career or you’re a seasoned Ad Executive. I’ve always made sure I impart the same values and ethics at work that I carry in my personal life and I truly believe that the relationships I’ve built in this industry have flourished because of this.
A mentor once told me it wasn’t about how well you balanced personal life and work life, but more about how you integrated it. This challenge was presented to me after giving birth a little over a year ago. When returning from maternity, I was given the opportunity to grow my team from 4 to 13 sellers through the acquisition of another company. Although incredibly exciting, I also had newborn twins at home. If I was at home, then my focus had to be 100% on them. Integrating both aspects of my life together was a must to ensure I succeeded not only as a leader for my team, but as a mother. Once I set clear guidelines with my team, they knew I’d be available for them at all hours before and after work, with the exception of a few hours, at which point I was dedicating time to the family. By setting these guidelines, I was able to establish an excellent working relationship with all my sellers and dedicate appropriate time to both them and to my family. It’s all on how you manage the time you have and always be present in the moment.
